Components marked “Required” must be submitted in order to graduate. Depending
on your major, you may take a Senior Seminar Course or Capstone experience that
will help you complete these. Note that you should save all of your good work
for the portfolio, since some prompts are not announced until the summer before
you will graduate.
Components marked “Automatic” are embedded in courses. If you
did not complete the course here at Truman, you will be asked to submit
something from your previous coursework.
Components marked “Optional” are left to you. While you do
not need to submit anything, this is a chance for you to show other excellent
work you have done. Although they are optional from the portfolio perspective,
some majors require specific kinds of papers submitted for these components as
part of a capstone experience.
How do I go about completing the
senior portfolio project?
Portfolios are submitted online, with an option for submitting interesting or
troubling artifacts physically, on CD, or via e-mail.
Most papers can
be directly submitted as Microsoft Word (.doc) or rich text format (.rtf). If
you are using a less common format (at Truman) such as Word Perfect, Microsoft
Works, LaTeX, etc., please export/re-save the file in either .pdf or .rtf format
before submitting.
Paper documents that are not available in digital format should be scanned and
saved in portable document format (pdf). Scanners and document conversion
software are available in computer labs in Pickler and in Violette Hall. Please
contact the ITS Help Desk (ext. x4544) or the lab staff members for further
assistance with technology issues related to image scanning and conversion.
Images, Audio and videotapes may be appropriate to submit, but they may also
require more explanation to show how your thinking was demonstrated. The prompt
for the item should still be submitted electronically. Photos and other images
are fairly straightforward to convert to a digital media (.jpg is preferred).
Audio and videotapes can be converted to digital format (Quicktime, WMA, MPEG,
MP3, etc.); however, this is a fairly daunting task if you do not have the
appropriate equipment and software. Contact the Help Desk if you would like to
try this. If you have something more interesting to submit, please contact the
portfolio office for help.
Online Submission:
Go to
http://assessment.truman.edu/components/Portfolionew/login.asp
Enter your username and password, and you will get into your own page.
Each category has a row of its own.
Upload
Document will allow you to submit your paper or
artifact to go with the prompt. If you have
trouble uploading a file, or have something more interesting that you would like
to submit in another format, please contact us at
ss17@truman.edu
Edit
will allow you to read the prompt and enter the details of your submission.
— If your paper is from a Truman course, clicking that box will allow you to
enter the name and number of the course.
— The link to the catalog will help you look them if you forgot the course
number.
— Complete the rest of the information buttons and boxes as best you can.
— In the first box, do your best to describe the assignment. If you have the
assignment prompt online, you may wish to include it or link to it. If not, just
write in a couple of sentences to help us understand the context of the
assignment.
— Then, explain why you think this item fulfils the prompt and demonstrates the
requested kind of thinking. In addition, comment on whether you think this work
really is your best work in this area, if you have lost a paper that might
fulfill the prompt better, or if you never did work in this area of thinking in
college.
— Click on the link marked “Descriptors” to see how your paper will be rated
— Using those descriptors, rate your paper, so that we can see how you would
score it.
— When you totally finished with this prompt, click “ready to submit,” which
will change the “Status” column on your front page. You may still go back and
edit it later, as long as you haven’t clicked the final “Submit your Portfolio
For Review” button.
Then, go onto the
next prompt, in whatever order you like.
For the cover letter, you may either upload a document directly, or enter text
into a textbox.
During your final semester at Truman,
when you are totally done with all of the prompts and are ready to be cleared
for graduation, click the
“Submit Your Portfolio for Review”
Button. This will take you to your final page. We ask you to consider allowing
us to share portions of your submission with others, either on the web page, or
in the Assessment Almanac. We also ask when you are planning to graduate, so
that we can be sure you are clear to graduate on time.

To ensure smooth graduation, you want to have
your portfolio completed on time.
